Five Year Plan
In five years I expect to be working full-time in the games industry, ideally as a gameplay systems designer or technical designer on a commercially released title. My primary goal is to complete and publish a successful game built in Unreal Engine. A multiplayer survival title inspired by the game Barotrauma. I plan to use Unreal's toolset for rapid prototyping, iterate on fun systems, and ship a product that reaches a sustainable audience. Achieving this will require consistent practice, building a portfolio of playable prototypes, and networking with other developers.
Building the Game (Unreal Engine)
My plan is to master Unreal Engine over the next few years and complete a full commercial-quality game. I will study Unreal's Blueprint visual scripting and C++ workflows, learn optimization techniques, and build modular systems for AI, inventory, and multiplayer. I will publish developer diaries and a small public demo to gather feedback and improve the design. For reference and tools I will use the official Unreal documentation and community resources (Unreal Engine).
Financial Goals
A key objective is to develop the game into a sustainable business so that I can support myself and invest in future projects. If the game finds an audience the revenue can be reinvested into marketing, team expansion, and tools. While building a game is not a guaranteed path to wealth, the goal is to create a product that supports steady income and opens opportunities for contract work, freelancing, or founding a small studio.
Accomplishments I Plan to Reach
- Learn how to use Unreal Engine.
- Release at least one playable commercial title on a major platform.
- Grow a small professional network and collaborate with other developers.
- Learn more Unreal Engine production techniques and optimization.
Life Outside Work
Outside of work I expect to have established stable routines that balance health, hobbies, and relationships. I value spending time with family and friends, and I may choose to start a family during this period. The flexibility of game development work can allow for a balanced life where I keep learning, mentoring others, and enjoying creative hobbies. I will also continue to play games with friends, using that experience to inform cooperative design decisions in my projects.
